What to see in Toro

Convent of Santa Sofía

The convent settled in Toro in the 14th century, adapting to the new urban trend of bringing old Romanesque monasteries into the town.

Tradition suggests that Queen María de Molina herself provided the nuns with her palace to establish the monastery.

Inside, the tower, the beautiful Patio de la Cisterna and the Moorish dome of the church are especially noteworthy. The patio has columns with capitals decorated with figures and mythological animals.

This place forms part of the cultural heritage that makes Toro one of the most interesting destinations in Zamora for a monumental, wine-focused and gastronomic getaway.
