The Alcázar
The Alcázar is located in a beautiful setting, about 100 metres above the Duero river.
It dates from the 10th century and formed part of the first walled enclosure, built under the initiative of Infante Don García.
Only the outer walls of the original building survive, made of concrete, lime and rounded stones. Important historical events took place inside, including the death of Infante Don Juan el Tuerto. It was also the last refuge of Juana la Beltraneja in these lands before losing her crown to Isabella the Catholic.
This place forms part of the cultural heritage that makes Toro one of the most interesting destinations in Zamora for a monumental, wine-focused and gastronomic getaway.
