What to see in Toro
Toro wine
Toro wine is closely linked to the history of the town and became an important element in its development over the centuries.
In the Middle Ages, both Toro wine and its vineyards enjoyed privileges granted by several monarchs, which allowed it to be sold almost as a monopoly in important fairs and cities.
By the late Middle Ages, the only red wines admitted at court were those of Toro. Writers such as Góngora, Quevedo and Larra mentioned and praised them in their works.
After decades of relative decline, a new generation of winegrowers and winemakers revived the region in the late 20th century, obtaining the Toro Designation of Origin in 1987. Today, its wineries produce wines with a distinctive personality, character, elegance and modernity.
This place forms part of the cultural heritage that makes Toro one of the most interesting destinations in Zamora for a monumental, wine-focused and gastronomic getaway.
