What to see in Toro

Church of San Salvador de los Caballeros

This church belonged to the Templar Order, as can be seen on the southern doorway where the order’s arms are displayed.

It is built entirely in brick and has a basilica plan divided into three naves. Its walls and vaults were once plastered and covered with paintings, and a 1329 document refers to it as “San Salvador el pintado”.

Today it houses an interesting museum of sacred art and was declared a national monument on 18 May 1929.

This place forms part of the cultural heritage that makes Toro one of the most interesting destinations in Zamora for a monumental, wine-focused and gastronomic getaway.
