What to see in Toro

Palace of the Laws

The Palace of the Laws was a royal palace of the Castilian-Leonese crown during the Middle Ages and later became linked to the Ulloa-Pereira family estate.

On 11 January 1505, the testamentary provisions of Isabella the Catholic were read within its walls, proclaiming her daughter Joanna as heir to Castile and King Ferdinand as regent.

The famous 83 Laws of Toro were also enacted here, forming the basis for later legal compilations up to the Spanish Civil Code. The palace and its magnificent halls with Mudéjar ceilings were destroyed by fire on 15 August 1923.

This place forms part of the cultural heritage that makes Toro one of the most interesting destinations in Zamora for a monumental, wine-focused and gastronomic getaway.
