Palace of the Marquises of Alcañices
This palace has a grand three-storey façade. Its windows are protected by impressive wrought-iron grilles, with Renaissance-style balconies on the second floor and a beautiful gallery of arches above.
On 11 January 1552, the wedding of Princess Joanna, daughter of Charles I, to the heir to the Portuguese throne, Don Juan Manuel, was celebrated inside.
The palace was also the final residence of the powerful favourite of Philip IV, the Count-Duke of Olivares.
This place forms part of the cultural heritage that makes Toro one of the most interesting destinations in Zamora for a monumental, wine-focused and gastronomic getaway.
